RAIN! Monday, Aug. 29th GREEN & GOLD
The court is soaked! We will NOT have practice today. All players need to meet their Coach in the Health room to receive their team uniform. Your daughter can be picked up after uniform distribution around 3:30pm.
GOLD Team Info - Week of August 29th
Dear Gold Team Parents,
Welcome to MD volleyball! I am thrilled to have your daughter playing on my team and I look forward to a successful and fun season. Both the green and gold teams will be having a parent meeting THIS Thursday, September 1st, from 4:15-4:45pm in the library. We will be sharing important details about the season as well as nuts and bolts of Shorecrest Athletics. If you cannot attend I will send a follow-up email.
The MD Volleyball blog will be updated each week by Coach Hodgson and I. Please be sure to read the updates pertaining to the GOLD team. http://shorecrestmdvolleyball.blogspot.com
The schedule for this week is as follows:
Week of Aug. 29th – GOLD team
Monday-Friday: Practice 3:15 to 4:30
*Thursday: quick parent meeting from 4:15-4:45pm in the library.
Practices:
We will have practice after school each day from 3:15-4:30pm on the lower division courts. Please be sure that your daughter has a water bottle that can be filled up before practice starts. A hat and sunscreen are highly recommended.
If you daughter must miss practice she knows to write me a quick note so that I won’t expect her. Please remind her to do so.
Being a part of any sports team is an exciting and time consuming commitment. Please help your daughter juggle sports practice with her academics. Time management is an important tool to learn in middle division.
Games:
Almost all of our games are away this year as we complete the new Athletic Center. The girls will travel together on a team bus to the game and can either be picked up by a parent at the game or ride the bus with me back to School. If your daughter rides the bus back to school she will call you with our estimated arrival time so that you can be at school when the bus arrives. If you daughter will be riding home with a friend I NEED A NOTE FROM YOU. All parents must sign-out their daughter with me before leaving a game.
I look forward to coaching your daughter and helping her learn about volleyball and herself. Please feel free to contact me if you ever have a question or concern: bdougherty@shorecrest.org or 727-254-8522 (cell).

Green Team INFO for Week of Aug. 29
Dear Green Team Parents,
Coach Dougherty and I were pleased to see all the girls that came out to play volleyball for Shorecrest this fall. Personally, I'm very happy to be back coaching middle division volleyball after a three year hiatus. Before that break I coached both the gold and green teams over a five year period with Coach Martinez.
As for getting information out to families, I will updating the MD Volleyball Blog each week to inform players and parents of practice days, matches and results. I sent home a game schedule with the girls on Friday but there could be changes to the schedule depending on the opening date of the Athletic Center.
The schedule for this week is as follows:
Week of Aug. 29th
Monday: Practice 3:15 to 4:30
Tuesday: Practice 3:15 to 4:30
Wednesday: Practice 3:15 to 4:30
Thursday: Practice 3:15 to 4:30 - Quick parent meeting following practice. If you can't attend I'll send out the info. that was discussed
Friday: Northside Christian (away) 4:30
Practices:
The green team will practice most days after school from 3:15 to 4:30. This time of year, as you know, the afternoons can be very hot. It is very important to send the girls with a good size water bottle that they don't have to refill to often between breaks. I will also encourage them to begin drinking water a couple hours before they come to practice.
Matches:
Almost all of our matches are away this season. I will drive one of the Shorecrest buses to transport the team to our matches (except the Saturday matches for the IRC and Keswick Invitationals). Players are always welcome to take the bus back to school if need be for pick-up. If a player arranges to go home with another family following a match I need an e-mail or note from her parents telling me it is okay.
The best way to contact me is by e-mail or my cell (727)417-1016.
HELP WANTED: I haven't had anyone volunteer to be a team parent this year, so the position is currently open. In the past my team parents have put together the drink and snacks schedule for the team's matches and tournament dates and sent out friendly e-mail reminders to those that have signed up to provide drinks and snacks.
I prefer parents provide bottled waters or Gatorades. When it comes to snacks, I like to see fruit (apples, bananas, etc), cereal bars or pretzels. Please no junk food before matches. Cookies can be passed out following a game. :-)
I plan on providing drinks and a snack for the team this coming Friday when we go to Northside.
I'm looking forward to a great year of volleyball in the middle division.
Sincerely,
Coach H
